The Benefits of Higher Education
The main benefit of going to higher education is linked to the range of higher skilled careers it can lead to.
Graduates often have specialist skills or knowledge. A graduate, with either an undergraduate degree or degree level apprenticeship, will earn on average £10,000 more each year than those who did not gain a higher-level qualification.

Many universities offer work placements or a year working in industry alongside academic study. These courses are called sandwich degrees.
Work placements while at university or work-based learning, as part of a Higher or Degree Apprenticeship, develop skills and provide real life work experience that employer’s value.
Studying at university or college also offers the opportunity to:
- become more independent
- make new friends
- take part in clubs and societies
- learn new skills
- develop confidence and resilience
