HEEA team members celebrate successes
Our team of Higher Education Engagement Assistants have been busy and are celebrating some personal successes. Read more about their achievements:
Bryony Mutton
HeppSY’s Engagement Assistant, Bryony, based at RNN Rotherham College has been invited to speak at two conferences in the Spring and Summer: one at University of Cambridge 21st French Graduate Conference ‘Rage Against the Machine’ and the other at the Graduate Centre for Europe’s 14th annual conference ‘Voices of change: Presents, Pasts and Futures of Activism and Protest in Europe’. Her main research focus is on the organisation of bodies in public space and the control and repression of these bodies as carried out by the authorities. Her Masters dissertation, entitled ‘From le rond-point to the Champs-Élysées: Exploring issues of spatiality, occupation and control in the emergence of, and State and police responses to, the Gilets Jaunes movement’, explores the Gilets Jaunes protest movement in France which began in November 2018 and is ongoing at present. Her previous work includes an undergraduate dissertation entitled ‘From “jungle” to shipping container: Enclavement endocolonial in Metropolitan France’, which interrogates the proliferation of informal settlements in Calais and the transferral of the inhabitants of these settlements to State funded, heavily securitized shipping container camps.
Jack Weller
Jack is the Higher Education Engagement Assistant based out at Chaucer who coordinates HeppSY activity for students at this school. In Jack’s spare time he enjoys pursuing his love of Art and is very successful in doing so. Jack has a series of exciting exhibitions occurring over the next few months:

Jack has also recently found out that a photo he took whilst on holiday in Jamaica has been accepted into a Sheffield Arts magazine.
Tiffany Jackson
Tiffany is HeppSY’s dedicated Higher Education Engagement Assistant based out at Ecclesfield School. Tiffany successfully completed her degree in Childhood Studies at Sheffield Hallam University and as a result has recently been invited back to talk to current students about her journey and current role here at HeppSY. Tiffany will be taking part in the ‘Inspire to Aspire’ project workshop on Monday 2 March 2020 1.00-2.30pm at Willow Court, Collegiate Crescent Campus, Sheffield S10. The project is bringing together students studying childhood courses at Sheffield Hallam University, teaching them vital employability skills and connecting them with employers in the Health and Caring Sector, Voluntary Sector and Non-teaching roles in Education.
Mat Devany
After spending the last academic year 18-19 working at Parkwood E-Act Academy as their Higher Education Engagement Assistant, Mat decided that he wanted to spend another year here at HeppSY. Mat is currently gaining experience in a college setting before pursuing a career in teaching and embarking on his PGCE in September 2020. Mat joined Barnsley College in September 2019 and has made such an impression on the staff and students that he was recently nominated for an in-house staff award. Mat is now recognised as a valued member of staff despite only being there solely for this academic year and this is a great achievement.
