Jasmin Mugisha has received a conditional offer to study Medicine at the highly competitive Imperial College London.

Jasmin, a former Oakwood student, is currently in her second year studying A Levels in Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at Thomas Rotherham College (TRC).

Last year, Jasmin took part in Challenge Yourself, a project funded through HeppSY+, which aimed to increase self-confidence, teamwork and problem solving skills through a series of activities including rock climbing and weaselling. Jasmine used these experiences to give her personal statement the edge. As well as support from Sophie Norris, a HeppSY+ Graduate Intern, Jasmine was able to use a personal statement builder designed by Sophie to help students showcase their skills to universities.

Jasmin shared her views to help outreach activities aimed at encouraging more students from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) groups to explore higher education. The project enabled her to get a preview of what university will be like by attending a Neuroscience talk delivered by former TRC teacher Dr Martin Clark who specialises in brain circuits at University of Central Lancashire.

Speaking about her UCAS offer, Jasmin said, “I’m really excited to be moving to London as the city will be a completely different environment, but a little nervous at the same time.” She hopes to become a surgeon in the future.
