Online Resources in light of Covid-19
With Schools in the UK closed to reduce the spread of the covid-19 virus – and only open to look after the children of “key workers” and vulnerable children – what can be done to fill the void coupled with the latest stringent restrictions on freedom of movement outside the home?
If your school already puts work online, using Google Classroom or similar software, it is likely that this will continue. Secondary schools generally make good use of this so it is good practice to encourage children to get into a routine of checking it and completing any work set.
Some schools may well request older pupils to follow their existing timetables, with some active lessons, involving Google Hangouts and virtual classrooms, and some passive lessons, where learners get on with work independently. Each school will no doubt have its own system
So what about careers advice?
The University of Sheffield now has information for prospective students on its website in the form of FAQs.
And the Universities and Colleges admission service (UCAS) also has some very good links and updates on its website.

Remember that while learning is important, at this time of exceptional uncertainty, so are family activities, such as having fun and getting out of the house (where appropriate). But you could pick up that instrument you always wanted to learn, or let children use apps like Zoom or Skype so they can stay in touch with their friends and relatives. Most importantly, keep talking, especially about the future and imagine how much we will all appreciate a normal life once it resumes!
